Browser Cookies

The Maine Windjammer Association (MWA) website employs cookies. A browser cookie (aka internet cookie, web cookie) is a small text file that the MWA website sends to your web browser, which is then stored on your computer. The cookie does not contain any personally identifiable information. It contains a modest amount of information about your particular web browser and about your visit to our website. Cookie text files do not contain viruses and will not hurt your computer. You can control whether or not your browser permits cookies to be stored and how long your browser stores your cookies. You can turn off cookies any time you wish, but you should be aware that some websites will not function properly if cookies are not permitted.

Data from Brochure Request and Contact Forms on the MWA Website

If you wish for us to send you a packet of brochures for the vessels in the MWA fleet, or if you wish to send us a web inquiry, we will collect information for your full name, address, city, state, county, zip/postal code, email address and/or contact phone number and we’ll ask how you heard about us so that we can get some idea how our marketing efforts are working. This information is protected by our SSL certificate, which is applied site-wide. We do not store your information in our web database. Your information is sent to us through the encrypted forms on the website. We then store that information securely in an encrypted/locked file on a computer that sits behind a secure wireless connection and firewall and we keep it for a period of 36 months.

Website Security

The MWA website is protected via a 256-bit RSA Comodo SSL Certificate. Your connection to our site and information you provide on our site is secured.

How We Use Your Data

The data that the MWA collects from you on the website is gathered for the sole purpose to send you information about the vessels of our fleet or sending you email communication that you requested or opted-in for. We will keep your mailing information on file for three (3) years or until you ask us to remove you from our mailing list. Your email address stays on file until you unsubscribe.

Because you expressed an interest in and requested information for our windjammers, we will very occasionally mail you a reminder postcard, an annual calendar for your wall, or our annual print newsletter so that you can stay up to date on events and information about the MWA. If you no longer wish to receive information in the mail from the MWA, please let us know via email and we will remove your information.

We Respect Your Privacy

Our email delivery is serviced by Constant Contact and every email contains the ability to unsubscribe or opt-out. If you no longer wish to receive our emails, we kindly ask that you unsubscribe (or email us at info@sailmainecoast.com and ask us to remove you) as opposed to filing a SPAM report. The MWA does NOT send email to anyone other than those persons who opted in at some point.

We give you our solemn promise that we will never share the information we collect with 3rd party advertisers, programs, services, list rental houses, or individuals with whom you did not explicitly and directly opt-in. We value your privacy and your trust in us.

The Consent You Grant Us

When you use our website to submit a request for brochures, use our contact form, or sign up for our monthly e-mail newsletter, you are directly providing consent for us to contact you and send you information. When you request brochures through the mail or opt-in to our email, you are also providing consent for us to contact you at a later date and into the future with information from the MWA that we think you’d be interested in.

Google Analytics & Remarketing

Like most websites on the planet, the MWA website uses Google Analytics to track website visitors and to sometimes serve image remarketing ads to people who visit portions of the website. The Google Analytics code and the Google Remarketing code that is on the website does not capture any personally identifiable or personally sensitive information. It knows you only by your IP address at the location where you are browsing. The information we gather from Analytics and remarketing tells us the pages that were visited, how many visitors came to the site in a period of time, how many goals (brochure requests, email signups, web contacts) were completed, and other information that allows us to make decisions about how to make the website better for you. It does not, however, tell us anything about you in particular. Google has options for you to opt-out of being tracked by Analytics if you wish. You should be aware, though, that by opting out, businesses lose valuable information they get to help make your online experience a more positive one.

How You Can Opt-Out

Training, Education, Co-operation & Compliance

The MWA ensures that the people who handle brochure request address and contact information, web inquiries, and email opt-ins understand and adhere to the guidelines set forth here as as required by both GDPR and PCI Compliance. We assess methods and procedures biannually and we complete a compliance self-assessment annually.
