It pays to book early again and again

While the Maine Windjammer Association captains are looking toward another memorable season, starting on-board projects, some passengers and guests are already booking for next season.  The 2020 schedules for all eight Maine Windjammer Association vessels are up and online.  Visit your favorite windjammer’s website for their individual schedules or peruse all the schedules side by side and link from there to the individual websites here.

It pays to book early.  Not only will you find the best availability for the cabin you want, but some boats offer discounts for reservations booked by the end of February.  Book your reservation by March 1 on Schooner Ladona or Stephen Taber and you’ll be treated to a 5-percent discount.  Book and pay in full by March 1 and Victory Chimes will offer up a 5-percent discount on your cruise too.  For new passengers who’ve never sailed on the Schooner Lewis R. French, book by March 1 and new early bird booking  guests receive a 5-percent discount.  Book your reservation and pay in full by February 1 on Windjammer Angelique, and you will receive a 10-percent discount (only if the cruise is paid entirely in full by Feb 1).

It also pays to return year after year.  A number of the Maine Windjammer vessels offer a discount to returning guests.  Schooners Heritage and American Eagle publish a 5-percent discount for returning passengers.  Schooner Lewis R. French offers returning passengers a 10-percent discount. Schooner Mary Day offers a 10-percent discount to returning guests ONLY if they book by calling (not online).

Solo travelers can save on a single occupancy surcharge by booking a double cabin and agreeing to bunk in with a roommate.  “Reserve a single bed in a double bunk cabin and not only will you find a little more room in your cabin, but you’ll pay the double per person rate,” say the captains of the Schooner Mary Day.  Not all boats allow this, and you must call to make your reservations.  Your captains will do their best to find a great roommate for you.  Just think, you may find a new cruising buddy for the future this way and save too.

Don't forget to do nothing sometimes but enjoy the view.

Please note, most discounts can’t be combined.  When it comes to saving, be sure to call the boat of your choice to confirm or learn about discounted rates.  Clearly, those who book early will get the best choice of cabins.  Many passengers book their cruises for the next year the day they leave the boat after a fabulous few days on the water.  By booking early, you’ll have something to look forward to throughout the winter and spring too!
